Woah.. a long day shopping today.

You accompany me and my bro to buy sofa and cupboard.

Thanks for the tips on Star Funiture opening sales.

First we took lunch at Tapopo Jap restaurant at Liang Court and accompany my bro with his camera shopping at Audio House. Then we bought some bubble bath Shower Gel while waiting for my bro.

Then we went to star furniture to check out sofas.

We took a picture with the chicken and rabbit together at Star Furniture.

( Ok why rabbit and chicken? )

Finally after much deliberation we purchased the sofa and gotten 3 pillows free due to your connection :P Thanks again dear.

Later we move on to IKEA for cupboard, before we had dinner at the Zhou's Restaurant.

You were so Full!!! You said :P And you like the Mango Dessert, abit unique.

We spent a few hours at Vivo....Shop Shop Shop... and caught The Golden Compass at Vivo GV Gold Class.

Drove up to Vivo in my bro trust Vios. ( he is out of town )

The weather was cold due to rain.....

U bought a sweet yellow cardigan and i bought 2 Tees :P

Dinner was at Marche, good old crepes and potato....( forgot what is it names )

Tried the spanish seafood paella too... not too bad.

Well, i was looking for new Shoes today.....

Was at Takashimaya, went to Pedro.

AND THERE WAS NO CHRISTMAS PROMOTION!!!!

Well Design not too bad, but kind of disappointed that.... there are no CHRISTMAS PROMOTION!!!

It is not like..Super Branded Stuff that don't need any promotion at all... or maybe this is what PEDRO want to achieve....Sorry...you are not there yet..ok at least to me...i am entitle to my own opinion right?

Anyway, i bought my shoes in the end, at ALDO..... a bit more Premium...compare to PEDRO....

Based on my personal shopper expert opinion.

Pick you up from Bugis, Heavy rain.

Then we went to far east florist in the spur of moment. made an U turn and dropped in to the world of plants and flowers. I smell the christmas fig tree, it was faint due to the rain and saw some cute and pretty small pots of flowers, orchid, violet, etc etc.

We bought 1 vase for future flowers that i gonna send her :P and a pot of orchid for her mum.

Then we headed back to her place for dinner.

We met at PS at about 5pm. Had dinner at Mahanttan, my first time there, ordered a platter for 2. it was nice, but filling.Then we browsed around looking for a gift for your christmas gift exchange.ends up we did not find anything, but you bought some stuff from MWL.
The movie we watched was Heart Break Kid. an almost 2 hours show.I sent you home after the movie. A day spent with you. A day well spent.

Stress up lately with work and study.

Frustrated a bit with the expectation people have on me.

All along, i have never wanted to be Batman, i think i am more of a Robin guy.

But now a day, i seems to drop into more Batman roles than Robin's.

In study group, without me, can't start discussion. Expecting me to provide direction.

Pride and Honored i felt, but stressful as i need to ensure i am leading them on the correct track.

In work, i am paid to lead now, yes it is a small team of good colleagues but it is an interesting and learning experience. Along with my current degree course, past experiences and some basic common sense. I am still surviving and doing ok.

Made some mistakes and learnt from it.

Tried some ideas and learnt from it as well.

All these are taking a toll on me.....

Time to calm down and relax.

Hopefully, i can learn to accept i am more of a Batman now.

And must learn to manage the "things" that comes along with it.

Learning alot recently, sometimes i think my mind is overloading.

Sometimes i think my brain is running out of memory to process all the data.
Also, i might be running out of space for data storage.
As i aged i also feel that i terms to break down more frequent, maybe due to overheating or general wear and tear.

But i really learnt alot, thru work or in school.
Lecturers, Senior colleagues and peers are a good source of knowledge.
Even my customer is a source of knowledge.

Learning can be from experience, observation and asking questions.

Currently i am learning to be a leader, a role i am not familiar or foresee myself to be in before.

I may not be a born leader, but i sure hope i can learn to be one.

After reading both books, i learnt more about the challenges that we face as a nation.Although, we may not agreed with all Mr LKY ideas, we can't fault him for his team effort and dream for Singapore.We are not a perfect nation, but there are no perfect nation.Something, someone or somewhere got to give.We can't please everyone, every new policies, rules or decision will please some and anger some.Ultimately it should be for the survival of the nation.Time have changed, we are no longer the simple follower as in the past.We doubted, we judged, we questioned.It is good for the nation to know the citizen is watching.This should keep them on their toes.Hopefully this new generation is equally as good or is better than the previous group.As for us, let us just enjoy what we have now and remember everything we ask for have a price or cost to it.Will it better for us in the short term or in the long term?

Everyone of us faces problems, issues, challenges that are beyond our current scope of power to control.

Some of us will mope about it.
Some will whine about it.
And most of them don't want to leave it ( The situation or environment etc etc )

WHY?

Why don't we focus on what we can control, ourself, yourself.

We can't control the environment, luck or other people.

But we can control ourself;

We can control our emotion

We can put more effort into work or stuff
instead whining and not doing anything

We can find the positive lining in the dark clouds
instead of crying over spilled milk

We can choose to enjoy the things we like
instead of allowing others to spoil your mood

We can prepare ourself in advance so when opportunity arrived, we are ready.
Instead of waiting for the opportunity and we are not ready when it arrived.

There are so much more we can do if we learn to see that the only thing we have control of is ourself.

So why let things that we can't control affect us.

Back to school again for me.
Was tough initially, but getting on track now.

Had an interesting group with me for group project.
Thankfully they are cooperative and hardworking.

It is my first time attending lecture from foreign countries.
It is refreshing and interesting. Much better than local lecturer.
But unfortunately they are a bit more demanding. Haha.

Cat killer remanded

AN ODD-JOB worker was charged on Thursday with killing a cat at the void deck of a block of flats in Bukit Batok on New Year's Day.

No plea was taken from Zamzam Ismail, 41.

He is said to have committed mischief by swinging the cat twice against the wall at the void deck of Block 269 Bukit Batok East Avenue 4 at about 8.20am last Friday. .

He was remanded for psychiatric assessment. His next court appearance is on Jan 21.

If convicted he faces a jail term of up to five years and/or a fine.

E-Book Reader - Environmental Friendly?

Are E-Books getting more popular?

The market for E-Book seems to be growing.

There are many E Readers in the market now.

Kindle, Sony E Reader, Ipad and many more.

Practicality aside, my concern is more on earth friendliness.

I thought conventional books will be more earth friendly compare to E-Book Reader.
But it was not.

Dead-tree books require cutting down trees. (Duh!). Dan Shapley writes, "The paper industry is the 4th largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions among United States manufacturing industries, and contributes 9% of the manufacturing sector’s carbon emissions." Allen Hershkowitz from the National Resource Defense Council agrees, saying, “The paper industry is the No. 1 industrial pressure on forests."
Umbra Fisk summarizes the research so far into books vs. ebooks:

A MS candidate named Greg Kozak pitted textbooks against e-book devices [PDF] in 2003. He found that paper production, electricity of printing operations, and personal transportation were the main factors affecting the book footprint, while electricity was the main issue for e-readers; and that books were responsible for four times the greenhouse emissions as e-readers. In ‘04, two UC-Berkeley students evaluated newspaper vs PDA-based e-newspapers [PDF], and decided that a newspaper released 32-140 times the amount of CO2, and used 26-185 times the amount of water. A 2007 study in Sweden (here is the abstract) also looked at newspaper and found that newspaper’s biggest impact was in the paper production, while energy was the big impact for reading on the internet; for e-devices (the Kindle, etc.), production of the e-object is the biggest impact. The study concluded that reading e-newspapers had less impact than an actual newspaper.

The current book ordering system encourages bookstores to order more books than they can reasonably sell. That increases the number of published copies and consequently the number of returns (and the amount of shipping costs).
A number of print books which are bought are not read. In other words, books are produced with the goal to be sold, regardless of whether it is actually read. One cannot blame the publishing industry if people fail to read the books they buy; but with digital books, energy or resources are being consumed only if the ebook is actually being read.
E-ink readers are the ultimate low-energy devices. Charges last for weeks or sometimes longer than a month. The only additional step they can take is to make the devices run by solar energy (sigh!).

After reading this article, will you convert to E-Book?

I will not, i still prefer the good old way, a book in bag, anywhere i go, with a bookmark to mark my page, no batteries needed and can loan it to anyone once i finished it.

I will instead patronize 2nd hand bookshop to help save the earth.

First, we survived with mothers who had no maids.
They cooked /cleaned while taking care of us at the same time.

They took aspirin, candies floss,fizzy drinks, shaved ice with syrups and diabetes were rare.
Salt added to Pepsi or Coke was remedy for fever.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets
and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.

As children, we would ride with our parents on bicycles/ motorcycles for 2 or 3.
Richer ones in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a private taxi was a special treat.

We drank water from the tap and NOT from a bottle.
We would spend hours on the fields under bright sunlight flying our kites, without worrying about the UV ray which never seemed to affect us.

We went to jungles to catch spiders without worries of Aedes mosquitoes.
With mere 5 pebbles (stones) would be a endless game.
With a ball (tennis ball best) we boys would run like crazy for hours.
We catch guppy in drains / canals and when it rains we swim there.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually worry about being unhygienic.
We ate salty, very sweet & oily food, candies,bread and real butter and drank very sweet coffee/ tea, ice kacang, but we weren't overweight because....... WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, till streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. AND WE DIDN'T HAVE HANDPHONES TO BUG US.
And we were O.K. AND WE WERE SAFE.
We would spend hours repairing our old bicycles and wooden scooters out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.

After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .
We did not have Playstations, X-boxes, Nintendo's, multiple channels on cable TV, DVD movies, no surround sound, no phones, no personal computers, no Internet.

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and we still continued the stunts.

We never had birthdays parties till we were 21 .
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and just yelled for them!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law! Yet this generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 40 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the government regulated our lives for our own good.

Went to the windows to check out the construction site but instead saw smoke from JW Marriot.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's NEC Corp will halt production and sales of personal computers in the Asia-Pacific region around July, a spokesman said on Saturday, in a move that would see it pull out completely from the loss-making PC business overseas.

NEC, which has the top PC market share in Japan, last month signaled a withdrawal from the PC business in Europe, Africa and the Middle East amid slumping demand and tough competition.

NEC has warned it would post a net loss of 290 billion yen ($2.96 billion) for the business year ending this month, and is accelerating restructuring efforts, which include pulling out from weak businesses and cutting more than 20,000 jobs worldwide.

Competition with rivals such as Hewlett-Packard Co and Dell Inc has been fierce and NEC sold its retail PC business in Europe in 2006.

NEC sells about one-sixth of its annual global sales of 3 million PCs outside Japan.

Tokyo — TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today the nationwide launch in Japan of the completely redesigned "ist" compact hatchback through "Netz" dealers.

The first-generation ist, launched in May 2002, was praised for its quality and sophistication, setting new standards within the compact vehicle segment.

The second generation ist unveiled today, which has "New Style, New Position" as its theme, is designed to appeal to second-generation baby boomers who attach importance to the spirit of innovation and individuality. Not only is it a crossover hatchback developed with dynamic driving and easy operation in mind, it also has a new design that combines a compact 1.8-liter hatchback with an SUV, achieving strength and dynamism.

At less than 4 meters long by 1.7 meters wide, with 16-inch wheels and large tires, the new ist forms a silhouette that evokes a sense of stability and steadiness. Along with a strikingly designed and poised exterior, the vehicle features a unique interior that enhances the driver's pleasure.

The range of engines available has been upgraded from the 1.3-liter or 1.5-liter engine offered with the first-generation ist to a choice of either 1.5-liter or 1.8-liter engine, ensuring dynamic performance with power to spare. All models are equipped with SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) side and curtain shield airbags as well as a newly developed Active Headrest, achieving one of the best safety performances in the ist's class*. In addition, the ist achieves a level of fuel efficiency that exceeds Japanese government targets.

Vehicle Outline

Individualistic and Prominent Design
Development of the new ist was based on the Toyota brand design philosophy "Vibrant Clarity". The vehicle's unique crossover silhouette was formed by combining a body widened to 1.7 meters with a compact length that is less than 4 meters, evoking the strength and vitality of an SUV. The newly designed interior also enhances the pleasure of both riding in and driving the ist.
Exterior

The front features a wider track compared with the first-generation ist, creating a sense of stability and power.
The side emphasizes the individuality of the compact body with 16-inch wheels and sculpted body lines.

A total of eight body colors, including two new colors, are available for individualized styling.

Relaxing Interior Space
Ample room is provided for the rear seats, creating a relaxing interior space. The highly efficient package allows the space between the front and rear seats to be expanded by 30mm, while a change in the front seat slide rail structure creates 30mm more lateral leg room for the rear seats.
There is ample storage space in the vehicle and seats that can be arranged according to a particular need, enhancing functionality. Two-wheel-drive models feature rear seats with backrests that fold in a 60/40 split and a tilt-down mechanism, as well as seat sliding and reclining mechanisms, while four-wheel-drive models have double-folding rear seats with a seat reclining mechanism and backrests that fold in a 60/40 split.
The fully automatic air conditioning system features enhanced air cooling and heating performance, while consuming less energy and operating more quietly. In addition, a pollen removal mode filters out pollen, dust and other impurities from the air.
The vehicle also adopts Plasmacluster Ions®*, an air-cleaning technology, which fills the cabin with refreshing air consisting of an optimal ratio of positive and negative ions.
The Smart Entry & Start System uses a key that does not need to be removed from the driver's pocket to lock and unlock the doors, as well as a push button for starting the engine.

Advanced Driving Performance
The newly adopted 1.8-liter engine employs Dual VVT-i (Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) that optimizes both intake and exhaust valve timing to further enhance fuel efficiency for superior environmental performance and acceleration responsiveness.
The 1.5-liter engine is combined with a Super CVT-i (Super Continuously Variable Transmission-intelligent) for smooth acceleration and dynamic driving as well as excellent fuel efficiency and environmental performance.

Four-wheel-drive models adopt an active torque control system that contributes to driving stability regardless of road conditions.

Class Leading Safety Performance and Advanced Environmental Performance
The front-seat structures are based on the WIL (Whiplash Injury Lessening) concept and come with stronger seat frames and greater backrest give. They were designed based on analyses using THUMS (Total Human Model for Safety), incorporating an Active Headrest, which shifts to an appropriate position in order to reduce the risk of whiplash injury in a collision.
The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) side and curtain shield airbags, are standard on all vehicles in the series.

The GOA (Global Outstanding Assessment) construction has been further enhanced to create an advanced collision-safety body structure. Through the use of a body that effectively absorbs collision impact by diffusing it throughout its structure, Toyota satisfied independent targets for survival space and occupant injury.
The body structure has been developed to further reduce pedestrian head injuries in an effort to achieve one of the highest levels of injury prevention in its class.
The 1.5-liter front-wheel-drive models boast a fuel efficiency of 18.0km/l in the 10-15 test cycle outlined by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) with CO2 emissions under the test cycle just 129g/km, achieving fuel efficiency that exceeds by 10% the level called for by the Japanese 2010 standards*. Both NOx (nitrogen oxides) and NMHC (non-methane hydrocarbons) have also been reduced, meaning all models achieve emissions levels 75% lower than the 2005 standards under MLIT's Approval System for Low-emission Vehicles.

Eco-VAS (Eco-Vehicle Assessment System) — Toyota's original comprehensive environmental impact assessment system — was implemented to efficiently achieve overall reduction of environmental impact throughout the vehicle's entire lifecycle. Environmental targets were set in the initial vehicle development stage and a life cycle assessment was carried out to achieve a reduction of air contaminants and CO2, etc., throughout all stages of the vehicle's life from production and use to disposal.
A review of the materials, processing methods and adhesives used for interior parts resulted in a reduction in the amount of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) used, thereby also reducing the unpleasant odors emitted from such compounds and achieving the Japanese automobile industry's voluntary goals.
An Eco Driving Indicator lights up when the vehicle is being efficiently operated to raise the driver's awareness of environmentally considerate driving and contribute to higher fuel efficiency.

I guess to me at certain point of time in my life i did want some other things.

But in general all i hope and wish for is peace of mind.

1.Stable Job with Sufficient Income to feed the one i love and myself.
